Why did I love clothes so much?
At first, I wanted to be cool and admired it, but as I learned more about the era and culture, my love for it grew. I also felt the appeal of it as a form of self-expression, and reflected myself by changing into various clothes. Before leaving the house, I looked at myself in the mirror and was fascinated.
Then, wearing my favorite clothes, I decided to leave Japan and go overseas. What happened there made my love for it even bigger. I learned that clothes are a form of communication that doesn't require words.
When I'm walking down the street, someone calls out to me. "You look good!" The clothes look cool. A word from someone I didn't even know, in a place I didn't know anything about, made me feel connected to the world.
I can speak English well now, but when I went abroad for the first time at the age of 18, and when I decided to stay in Canada at the age of 25, all I could do was tell people my name. I was always nervous going through immigration.
However, ever since I took a little courage and curiosity to go abroad, these words have made me feel connected to the world.
Through this trip, I felt strongly that this emotion has been and will continue to be the driving force behind me. And I want to put all my effort into continuing this story.
I think the clothes I make will be with me throughout the day, both for me and for the people who will wear them in the future. I hope that my clothes will make me feel connected to the world, whether it's in Japan or overseas.
This trip I wore my own clothes. It made me realize once again how important this emotion is, which had faded over time as I spent my days cooped up in my atelier. Anyway, my clothes speak a lot.
Before I knew it, the magic of my birthday had broken, and now I naturally want to use my sewing machine as soon as possible. The next new collection will be announced next year around February 2024. Here is what I have accumulated over the past year.
I live my life while writing these words, and the clothes I make will last longer than my lifetime. If someone who lives 100 years from now, or even 1000 years from now, finds something and feels something...
And more than anything, now that I've met people who sympathize with me, I can take it one step at a time. In a world that seems to be constantly changing, I want to continue to challenge myself to do things that are always fun, with people who sympathize with me. Through clothes.
There's a scene I want to create. I've seen a little bit of that. We also become one big circle. We are powerful. We can still go on. This is where the challenge lies. I will walk today so that I can go where I want to go.
Let's take our time and do a fashion show in Japan.
